60 per cent of engineering graduates unemployed

NEW DELHI: More than 60% of the eight lakh engineers graduating from technical institutions across the country every year remain unemployed, according to the All India Council for Technical Education.

This is a potential loss of 20 lakh man days annually. That’s not all. Less than 1% of engineering students participate in summer internships and just 15% of engineering programmes offered by over 3,200 institutions are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

MUMBAI: IIM Trichy has completed final placements for the 2015-17 PGP (post-graduate programme in management) batch, with the highest domestic CTC of Rs 33 lakh, a 39% increase over last year's highest CTC of Rs 23.81 lakh.

MGNREGA's job creation pushed down unemployment in February 2017: SBI

MUMBAI: Economists at the country's largest lender SBI today attributed the sharp dip in unemployment to government efforts at pushing job creation in rural areas through the MGNREGA scheme.
