Career opportunities for women in BPM industry

With the economy, its component sectors too are undergoing change. The most radical one being the intervention of technical, digital and analytical practices and technologies in every sector – particularly the service oriented ones. The best example here can be the traditional BPO industry which has transformed to a new, hip version of itself in the form of BPM sector.

BPO is no more about servicing offshore clients alone. The industry has expanded its role in varied sectors and provides end to end solutions to many sectors including telecom, infra, IT development, lawyers, accounts professionals etc. And it’s no more about assisting foreign-based clients, albeit the top clients for most BPM companies now include the local governments, large domestic companies etc.

AVP – Executive Hiring, Genpact on ‘Career Opportunities for Women in the BPM industry’. Women professionals – both freshers and experienced – asked him a variety of questions ranging from new career avenues, work culture, long term future in BPM, job change etc. Here is a summary of his QnA with women professionals:

Opportunities for women in BPM industry – “There are multiple opportunities as BPM caters to multiple clients across verticals and functions. There could be roles in operations, support, consulting, digital, analytics, corporate etc.”

Technical profiles which women can explore – “There can be multiple roles in IT / product development functions. Given the nature of our business models there are roles for graduates, CAs, Lawyers, engineers, actuarials, MBAs’ etc.”

Roles for senior sales manager – “Depending on profile and depth of experience one can look at roles in delivery, solutioning (presales roles) or corporate roles in quality, strategy etc. A caveat here would be that certain roles require team management spread across geographies and hence similar past experience is helpful.”

Roles for digital marketing pros – “Digital is the buzzword today. One can explore roles within corporate digital marketing teams or could look at roles in the digital business functions across delivery or product.”
